Student Communications Assistant

The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies strives to improve equitable access to decent, affordable homes in thriving communities. We conduct rigorous research to advance policy and practice, and we bring together diverse stakeholders to spark new ideas for addressing housing challenges. Through teaching and fellowships, we mentor and inspire the next generation of housing leaders. 

The Center is seeking a student communications assistant to work with its administrative team. The responsibilities for the position include assisting with publications (formatting, proofing, publishing); maintaining the Center’s website and blog, mailing lists, and databases; assisting with launch of a new website (categorizing content, resizing images, spot-checking legacy content); monitoring media coverage; assisting with events (on-campus, virtual, and hybrid); and other general office duties as needed. Position runs through the fall semester with a possibility of extending through the spring semester. An interest in housing studies is welcome but not required. Applicant must be a Harvard student.

Requirements: 

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and social media platforms (LinkedIn, Bluesky). Experience with Drupal or other CMS a plus. Experience with Mailchimp or other email platforms a plus. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and work independently 
  • Ability to work on deadline 
  • Event management experience a plus.

Location: Hybrid; Joint Center for Housing Studies, 1 Bow Street, Cambridge 
Hours: 10-20 hours/week, daytime, flexible hours and work location.  
Rate: Commensurate with experience. Work-study and non-work-study students are eligible.
