Capital Market Integration and Growth Across the United States

Location: Virtual

Speaker(s): Leonardo D’Amico

What drives the integration of national financial markets, and what are its consequences for regional growth? Meyer Fellow and PhD candidate Leonardo D’Amico will discuss research he did with Maxim Alekseev on whether greater financial integration in the decades after World War II helped spur population and economic growth in the American South and West, and the relative decline of Northern financial centers. He will examine the current implications of their findings not only in the US but also in Europe, where regulations still limit cross-border deposit flows.
