A large and growing share of US households cannot find housing they can afford. A major focus of Joint Center research is to document the housing cost burdens that both renters and homeowners face, and to analyze the complex interrelationships among household incomes, housing prices, and the market dynamics driving affordability trends. We incorporate our findings into our signature reports and make our national, state, and metro-level cost burden data available through a variety of interactive tools.
